Microsoft has confirmed that Dynamics 365 Guides and Dynamics 365 Remote Assist reach end of support on 31 December 2026. After that date they will receive no security updates, non-security updates, bug fixes or technical support, and the apps will no longer function, although data will be retained in Dataverse, according to Microsoft Learn. Microsoft advises customers to plan the transition, explore alternatives and export their data.
For many industrial teams, Guides and Remote Assist on HoloLens 2 were how they delivered step-by-step AR instructions and remote expert support. The deadline is three months away.
A migration plan
1. Inventory what you use. List every guide, every site and every team that depends on Guides or Remote Assist, and how often they are used.
2. Export now. Export your guides and content before the deadline while the apps still work.
3. Separate the jobs. Most deployments do two different things:
- Work instructions: step-by-step procedures overlaid on equipment.
- Remote support: an expert seeing what a technician sees.
They may need different replacements.
4. Re-check the hardware choice. The market has changed: tablets and phones handle a lot of on-site AR without a headset, and new glasses and headsets are arriving. Choose by task, not by habit.
5. Check security. For plants and sites with strict rules, prefer solutions that can run on-premise and do not depend on an outside cloud.
6. Pilot before you switch. Move one team first, measure, then roll out.
