Hyderabad Metro Phase II: Catching Clashes Before Rework

The Centre has approved in principle a 162 km Hyderabad Metro Phase II. In a dense city, catching clashes on site early will decide cost and schedule.

On 21 May 2026, the Centre gave in-principle approval to the 162 km Phase II expansion of the Hyderabad Metro, to be funded 50:50 by the Centre and Telangana, following a review meeting in New Delhi, as NewsMeter reported. The approval followed the Telangana cabinet's decision on 29 April 2026 to take over Phase I operations from L&T.

For Hyderabad's contractors, consultants and suppliers, this is one of the largest urban infrastructure programmes on the horizon.

Why clash detection matters on metro work

Metro projects in dense cities pack a lot into tight spaces:

  • Utilities everywhere. Water, sewer, power and telecom lines run where piers and stations need to go.
  • Complex stations. Structure, MEP, signalling and passenger systems all compete for the same space.
  • Live city around the site. Every day of delay costs traffic and public patience as well as money.

BIM coordination catches many clashes in the design office. The expensive ones are the ones that appear on site: a service routed differently from the model, an embedded item in the wrong place, a late design change that never reached the crew.

What checking on site looks like

  1. Coordinate in BIM, as metro projects increasingly do.
  2. Verify on site against the model at critical stages, especially before concealment and before the next trade starts.
  3. Record and review disparities with the designer and client quickly, before they are built over.

How AR brings the model to site

Augmented reality overlays the 3D BIM model on the real structure, so engineers see exactly where the build departs from the design. It also makes on-site reviews with the client and consultants faster, because everyone looks at the same thing.

MOE AR overlays the BIM model on the job site to catch disparities and clashes before they become rework. After handover, Maquette-XR can keep a live digital twin of finished assets for monitoring. We are based at T-Hub, in Hyderabad.
