Secure XR for Defence: Air-Gapped and On-Premise by Design

Defence buyers ask hard questions about where training data lives. Why air-gapped, on-premise XR matters, and the questions to ask any vendor.

When a defence unit or a critical industrial site evaluates XR training, the first serious questions are rarely about graphics. They are about data: where it goes, who can reach it, and whether the system works without a network.

Why this matters more now

Modern XR hardware and software often assume a constant internet connection: cloud accounts, automatic updates, usage telemetry, online licence checks. That is fine in an office. It is not acceptable in a training establishment that handles sensitive information, or in a remote field location with no reliable link.

Operation Sindoor also underlined, as analysts at Organiser note, how much modern conflict is fought in the information domain. Training systems are part of that picture.

What "secure by design" means for XR

  • Air-gap capable. The system runs fully disconnected, with no dependency on an external network to start, run or license.
  • On-premise deployment. Software and data sit on the customer's own infrastructure.
  • Data residency. Training records stay inside the facility or in a region the customer chooses.
  • No hidden telemetry. Nothing is sent home unless the customer has agreed to it.
  • Controlled updates. Updates arrive in a way the customer can inspect and approve, not automatically over the internet.
  • Local support. The vendor can support the system in India, under Indian law.

Questions to ask any XR vendor

  1. Does the system run with no internet connection at all? Have you shown this at a customer site?
  2. What data does the software send, where, and can we turn it off?
  3. How are licences validated offline?
  4. How are updates delivered and verified?
  5. Where is the source code developed and maintained?
  6. What certifications do you hold, and which are in progress?

Honest answers to the last question matter. We are pursuing ISO 27001 certification, and we say plainly that it is not yet held. We would rather tell you that than claim it early.

How we build

Our technology page sets out where we stand: systems that are air-gap capable, deployed on-premise with data kept in your facility, portable between sites, with edge computing to keep latency low. That applies across our simulators, including VRMMDS and VRMDFS, and our Maquette-XR digital twin platform.
